Migraine TreatmentElderberries As soon as you feel a migraine starting, put 10 to 15 elderberries in 1 cup of water. Mash the berries and bring to a quick boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Strain, sweeten, and then drink it. Thyme Mix 1 teaspoon of dried herb per cup of hot water. Flaxseed An excellent natural migraine treatment because this rich source of essential fatty acids changes your body chemistry in a way that makes you produce fewer harmful prostaglandins, the hormonelike chemicals in the blood that cause constriction of blood vessels and increase sensitivity to pain. Take one to two tablespoons of fresh, cold-pressed oil daily. Vinegar Mix equal parts of water and vinegar and bring it to a boil. For several minutes, inhale the fumes. Repeat as necessary. Purslane This food contains high amounts of magnesium. People who have frequent migraines have been known to have magnesium deficiencies. Take 600 mg of magnesium per day. Other foods high in magnesium include oats, cowpeas, spinach, and green beans. Tansy Like feverfew, tansy contains parthenolides which help prevent migraines. Evening Primrose Another great natural migraine treatment, evening Primrose contains a high amounts of phenylalanine, an extremely effective natural pain reliever. Sunflower seeds contain high amounts of phenylalanine. Other sources include lentils, peanuts, lupines, spinach and butternut squash. Take six to eight capsules of evening Primrose oil every day. Lemon Coffee Add one tablespoon of lemon juice to a strong cup of coffee. Skullcap and Rosemary Rosemary is a circulatory stimulant that brings more blood and oxygen to the brain. Skullcap is relaxing and nourishes the nervous system. Used together they make for an excellent migraine treatment. Mix 1 teaspoon of dried, or one tablespoon of fresh, of each herb per 1 cup of boiling water. Pour the water over the herbs, cover, and steep for 15 to 20 minutes. Lemon Balm Mix one to two teaspoons of dried herb per cup of boiling water and steep until cool. Feel free to add feverfew, ginger and turmeric. Feverfew Touted by some to be the best natural migraine treatment, feverfew has helped many people with their pain. Users often take fresh leaves, typically ingesting one to 4 leaves a day to prevent migraines. You can also take this herb in capsules, anywhere from 60 mg to 380 mg per day. Hairdryer Take a hairdryer, put it on the medium setting and direct the warm air towards the pain of your migraine headache. Willow Willow bark contains salicin, and aspirin-like chemical that relieves pain. Take 60 to 120 mg of salicin which equals about 1 teaspoon of high salicin barks, or 1 1/2 teaspoons of white willow. Garlic and Onion Garlic and onion are blood thinning herbs and therefore reduce platelet activity which is involved with triggering migraines. Stinking Iris This natural painkiller makes for a good natural migraine treatment. Chop one tablespoon of stinking Iris and add to 2 cups of water. Boil gently for 15 minutes. Strain and take up to three tablespoons per day. Wood Betony Wood Betony affects the nervous system with a sedative action and tonic effect. Take two to 6 mL of tincture three times a day. Bay This is an excellent natural migraine treatment because it inhibits the release of serotonin which causes migraines. Ginkgo Dingo improves blood flow to the brain. Take 30 drops of a standardized extract containing at least .5% flavonoid glycosides three times a day for a day or two. You can also take in capsule form, 60 to 240 mg per day. Red Pepper The ingredient in red pepper that makes it hot, known as capsaicin, is an excellent natural pain reliever making it yet another fantastic all natural migraine treatment. Take it in capsule form. Nettle If you are not allergic to Nettle, put two tablespoons of dried medal in 2 cups of milk. Simmer for 10 minutes, strain and sweeten with honey. Drink it while it's still warm. Peppermint Peppermint oil when mixed with a little alcohol, rubbed on the temples, helps alleviate headache pain. Add some lavender and eucalyptus and Rosemary if available. Ginger Every four hours, take 500 to 600 mg of dried ginger mixing water at the onset of a migraine headache.
