Home Remedies For Killing Fleas

Fleas are tough to fight. A female flea can lay 2000 eggs in her lifetime. This presents an ongoing battle for pet owners and creates
a strong demand for home remedies for killing fleas.

The National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) released a troubling report asserting that certain insectacides found in certain commercial remedies for fleas can be especially harmful to children and pets, and even adults.

Fortunately you can try some of the home remedies for killing fleas we have provided a few for you here.

Treat For Fleas Using Garlic

One of the most popular home remedies for killing fleas is the use of garlic. Sprinkle garlic on your pet's food.

Dogs over 50 pounds can have up to two teaspoons of garlic a day. Give smaller dogs 1/4 to 1/2 a teaspoon a day. Cats should only have 1/8 of a teaspoon or less garlic each day for not more than two weeks.

Brewers Yeast As A Natural Cure For Fleas

Another one of the better home remedies for killing fleas is brewers yeast. Apply it to your pet's food in the same manner as you would apply the garlic.

Yeast And Garlic Powder Wafers

Here is a great product that contains both brewers yeast and garlic powder. It's one of the easiest home remedies for killing fleas because it comes in wafer form, allowing you to give your pet a "treat". It's also available in powder form to sprinkle on your pet's food.

Apply oil or lotion to the animals skin. Neem, an Indian herb, is known to be one of the most effective home remedies for killing fleas. Some animals are sensitive to neem, so you may have to use the lotion which is not as strong as the oil.

Neem can be helpful with other pet skin problems too. Dogs and cats dislike the bitter taste of neem, which means that they would be less inclined to bite and chew at their own skin.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Michelle from Austin, Texas writes: "For immediate relief of fleas use apple cider vinegar. This does not kill the fleas, but they jump off right away, so do this outside. Use two parts vinegar and one part water in a spray bottle."

"Completely cover the coat and comb through. I have found that this home remedy for fleas lasts for about three to four days. I learned from another site that four tbls. per gallon in the water bowl helps fight fleas also."
