Basil

One of the best home remedies for fruit flies is to simply put a pot of basil on a window sill or table. This will help reduce the number of fruit flies in the area.

Soap

Dry soap acts as a fruit fly repellent. Sprinkle it into garbage cans and any other problem areas.

Chili And Vinegar

This one of the home remedies for fruit flies that you can apply directly to your fruit trees. In a pot, mix 2 ounces of beer, 1 1/2 quarts of water, 4 chopped jalapenos, and 2 cloves of garlic.

Cover this mixture and bring it to a boil for 5 minutes. Then let it sit in the pot for 24 hours. Then add 1/2 cup vinegar to the mixture.

Strain the mixture well and pour it into a sprayer. Apply the mixture to the leaves of your fruit trees, try to avoid spraying the blossoms.

Lavendar Oil

Another one of the more effective home remedies for fruit flies is to set a sponge in a saucer and soak it with lavender oil. Place this near fresh produce or wherever you need to in the room to repel fruit flies.
