Gout Remedies

Water

One of the simplest gout remedies is to make sure you drink eight, 8 ounce glasses of water per day to flush out excess uric acid that causes gout.

Celery

Eat 4 celery stalks per day, or take 3 tablets of celery seed extract per day.

Cherries

Known as one of the best gout remedies, eat one 8 ounce bowl of cherries (about 15 cherries) per day. Or as an alternative ...

Black Cherry Juice

1 tablespoon of black cherry juice concentrate 3 times per day until the pain goes away. Take 1 tablespoon per day for prevention of gout.

Ginger

Grate a 2 inch square of fresh ginger. Boil 2 quarts of water, remove it from the heat and mix in the grated ginger. Cover the mixture and let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes.

Soak a washcloth in the mixture, wring it out, and apply it to the affected area. This is one of the most soothing gout remedies.

Leave the washcloth on until it cools off, then apply a different washcloth, one that has soaked in ice water, to the affected for a few minutes, re-soak the warm washcloth and reapply it.

Alternate between the two for about 15 minutes. Do this once per day.

Flaxseed Charcoal

Another one of the more soothing gout remedies, grind 3 tablespoons of flaxseed into meal in a blender and then mix it with 1/2 cup of powdered activated charcoal.

Add enough warm water to make a paste, and apply it to the affected area. Change it every 4 hours during the day and leave it on overnight.

Willow Bark

Willow bark contains compounds that are similiar to aspirin. This makes willow bark one of the fastest acting gout remedies when it comes to relieving the pain. Mix 2 teaspoons of willow bark in 1 cup of boiling water ans let it simmer for about 20 minutes.

Charcoal

Take 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of activated charcoal by mouth, 4 times per day, spread out equally.

Horsetail

Another one of the better gout remedies, take three 400-500 mg capsules, four times per day, or take 60 drops of tincture once per day. After the pain is gone, reduce the dosage down to three 400-500 mg capsules, once per day or 20 drops of tincture once per day.

Pears

Eat 3 fresh pears per day to prevent gout flair-ups.

Sour Cream Olive Oil

Mix 1/4 cup of olive oil with 1/4 cup of sour cream. Apply the mixture to the affected area and then wrap with a small cloth. This is another one of the more calming and soothing gout remedies.

Burdock

Mix and drink 20 to 30 drops of tincture in 8 ounces of water 4 times per day. Continue taking for a few days after the pain has gone away.

Black Currant Leaf

Mix 1 tablespoon of chopped black currant leaf with 1 cup of water. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. Strain the mixture and drink 1/3 of the liquid, three times per day.

Strawberries

Eating nothing but strawberries for 2 days. Although this is one of the wildest gout remedies I have heard of, some people swear it works.

As an alternative, try drinking strawberry tea. Mix 4 to 5 strawberry leaves in 1 cup of boiling water. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, strain it and drink.
