Diarrhea Remedies

Cinnamon

Cinnamon tea is one of the quickest acting diarrhea remedies. Mix 1 cup of boiling water with 1 teaspoon of powdered cinnamon and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Strain the mixture through a paper towel to strain out the cinnamon and then enjoy fast relief.

Plantain

Mix 4 tablespoons of dried plantain leaves with 1 cup of boiling water. Cover and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Strain it, and sweeten if necessary. Drink 1/2 cup every 2 hours.

Agrimony

Because it contains a high amount of tannins that assist in binding and contracting tissues, agrimony is one of the most effective diarrhea remedies.

Use 3 teaspoons of dried leaves to make a tea.

Rice

Boil 2/3 cup of rice, white or brown, in 4 cups of water for 15 minutes. Strain the mixture and drink it slowly.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek is also one of the diarrhea remedies that works real good because it contains so much mucilage, which swells in the intestines, soothes the bowels, absorbs water and bulks up the stools. However, use no more than 2 teaspoons at at time.

Apple Sauce

Apple pulp is rich in pectin, a soluble fiber that adds bulk to stools and calms the bowels. The best recipe is to make your own. Peel it, core it, and puree it in the blender.

Eat 1 apple this way every two hours without any other food except water.

Green Tea

Another one of the diarrhea remedies high in tannins, green tea forms a protective coating in the bowels to help prevent the body from absorbing toxins that may be causing the diarrhea.

Psyllium

Here's another herb that, because of it's high mucilage content, adds bulk to the stool.

Blackberry

Another one of the better herbal diarrhea remedies, use 2 teaspoons of blackberry leaves to make a tea.

Oak

Use 2 teaspoons of dried oak bark to make an astringent tea.

Carrot

Carrots contain high amounts of pectins, which comfort the bowels and slows down the rate that stools pass through the colon, making it rank high on the list of diarrhea remedies.

Cook up 1 pound of carrots in a little bit of water until they get soft. Then, puree them in a blender. Refrigerate while taking 1/4 cup every 30 minutes.
