Natural Herbal Anxiety Treatment

Anxiety Treatment

Breathing

When suffering an attack, you can immediately administer this anxiety treatment yourself. Just regulate your breathing pattern. Breathe in through your nose for 5 seconds, hold your breath for 20 seconds, and then exhale through your mouth for 10 seconds. Repeat for 3 minutes.

Exercise

Try walking, jogging, bicycling, yoga or stretching for at least 30 minutes every day.

Chamomile

Drink a cup of chamomile tea 3 times per day. This herbal anxiety treatment contains apigenin, which causes anti-anxiety effects. Mix 2 teaspoons of dried chamomile flowers in 8 ounces of boiling water.

Cover and let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes, then strain it. If using fine powder chamomile, mix 1 teaspoon per 8 ounces of water.

Alcohol

Avoid alchoholic drinks. Alcohol reduces anxiety for the first several hours, but when it begins to wear off, it has the opposite effect and can actually increase anxiety.

Valerian

This is a very effective herbal anxiety treatment because it affects the same part of the brain that the drug Valium does, but without the possible dependency and grogginess. Take 150 mg twice per day.

Magnesium

Take 1000 mg when feeling stressed and overwhelmed.

Passionflower

Mix 40 drops of tincture in 8 ounces of water with each meal. This anxiety treatment can also be taken as a tea. Mix 1 teaspoon of dried passionflowers with 8 ounces of boiling water, cover and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Strain before drinking.

Caffeine

Stay away from drinks and foods that contain caffeine, like coffee, teas, colas, and chocolate. Caffeine usually will make you feel good and energetic for up to one or two hours, but 3 to 12 hours after drinking or eating caffeine, the brain is affected by the caffeine and anxiety-producing effects begin.

Kava Kava

This herbal anxiety treatment is a natural relaxant. Take 50 mg tablets no more than twice per day. You should begin to see results after about one week, and feel significant results after about 4 to 8 weeks.

Milk

Try a glass of milk. Warm it up to room temperature. Milk is a good anxiety treatment because it contains tryptophan, a chemical that causes relaxation.
